Objective – Year One

  • Be able to support our customer’s (Linux primarily, Windows secondarily) environments without assistance, while providing excellent customer service.


  • Provide first and second level support for all the Linux and Unix environments
  • Managing and providing support for all Linux and Solaris system requests
  • Work with non-Windows engineering and development groups in supporting day-to-day tasks
  • Implement daily production changes related to Linux/Solaris systems and coordinating these changes with appropriate parties for verification of functionality
  • Investigate and diagnose production issues or outages and respond in a timely fashion
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, and adhere to company standards and procedures


  • Analyze information and respond with corrective action, utilizing system monitoring technologies such Microsoft System Center (SCOM)
  • Provide daily and weekly SLA reports
  • Acknowledge and respond to service issues within the defined SLAs
  • Perform analysis on current systems and make recommendations on tactical and strategic solutions for Network, System and Storage Environment
  • Review, classify, prioritize and analyze problematic situations and escalate as necessary
  • Follow process, and demonstrate imitative
  • Work effectively with management to determine project requirements
  • Provide standard coverage hours
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Minimum of three years administering Linux/Unix server environment
  • Basic knowledge of Active Directory as well as experience with Centrify
  • Experience with HP, Fujitsu, and Sun Line of Hardware
  • Experience in administrating of Red Hat, Linux 4 and 5 and Solaris 9 and 10
  • Proficiency with setup, modification and troubleshooting of Samba
  • Knowledge of monitoring technologies such as Microsoft System Center (SCOM)
  • Windows Server experience
  • Scripting experience such as Perl programming or Unix shell scripting
  • Knowledge of HP line of storage arrays (VMAX)
  • Ability to meet stringent deadlines and handle multiple tasks
  • Familiar with change management and ITIL processes
  • Ability to provide timely and informative follow-up to customers


B.S./B.A. degree or relevant experience preferred
